Thirty-First Shower-[Written, dated to be during Xion's battle]

[During Xion's all-out village fight, Kairi stayed behind with Sora in their apartment. Currently she's more or less keeping a vigil over the still unconcious brunette but she'll occasionally glance out the window to watch what's happening with everybody and Xion.]

Well, at least they're keeping it away from the village a bit. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be more worried about, the people fighting her, or the fact that they're trying to kill her.

~~Riku, you could have told me you were going to go before you just ran off.~~

I'm not even sure who's out there fighting, but knowing that Riku, Axel, and Roxas are out there definitely isn't that settling. Who knows who else is risking themselves right now?

I have no idea if the ones fighting her are going to have time to check this, but if you're reading this later? Let me know.

...well, that's just depressing. Um. Hey! What's everybody else doing? Somebody change the subject for me. ~~Please?~~

[Awake indeed, though it takes him a few minutes to come back to reality. The hand he has raised lowers somewhat closer to his body, his fingers folding in as if they're holding something - he's seeing two clasped hands in his mind - and then he finally opens his eyes and looks at her. And there's Sora, his eyes as blue and open as ever, and he gives her a little bit of a shaky smile.]

Sorry, Kairi... I think I lost your charm.

[She never would have thought it'd be this bad, but she's really really missed those baby blues. She's not sure where his mind is right now since he's going on about her charm of all things, but that's enough. That's enough proof that he's Sora again. So just give her a few seconds of unblinking staring before she's leaning forward to bury her face in his chest, still sitting in her chair and folding her arms close to her head.] You're back.

[And his strength is coming back to him gradually, more quickly than he expected it to but still not quickly enough. One arm settles around her shoulders when he really wants to pull her onto the bed and just hold on to her, but that's gonna have to wait.]

Yeah... I'm home.

[Don't mind her, Kairi's still busy holding it together and sniffing occasionally to calm down except there's still probably a tear or two leaking through his shirt.] Hi. Welcome back.

I always come back to you, right? [It was their promise - he couldn't help being dragged away, usually, but he'd always return, no matter what it took. He'd get there. He'd be her prince, even if he was kind of terrible at it. His other arm comes up to pull her a little more into him, holding on as best he can - he's not sitting up just yet.] You mean more to me than anything.

[Normally she'd tease him a little about being so cheesy, but that's kind of just what she needs to hear right now so she just nods against his chest even though she's not looking up just yet. Another sniff and her arms tighten around him just a little despite her slightly awkward angle.] You're back. You're back, you're back, you're back.

[Even with as depressing as the situation is, there's not much he can do at that chanting but kind of laugh a little - she's great at making him smile, even unintentionally.]

Yeah, I'm back. Come on, you can get up here - this is kind of awkward.

[Well, you don't have to tell her twice. She sits up then and she doesn't even bother with a warning before she's crawling up onto the bed and curling up right now to him, swiping her hand under her eyes really quick.] Yeah. It was kind of awkward that way, wasn't it? [Attempting to joke about it, but she's still kind of cracking.]

[Yeah, and he can hear that. Sora's smile faded, 'cause the situation really isn't funny, and he pushes himself up to turn sideways, still holding on to her and holding her tightly against his chest when he settles down, pressing her head into his shoulder.]

I missed you so much.

[She kind of wonders if that's possible for someone who wasn't even aware of what was happening, but again, he's saying what she needs to hear so don't mind her as she keeps her face pressed against his shoulder and just settles for a few minutes of quiet crying. Sorry Sora, just a second. At least he knows she's missed him too.]

[And he tightens his arms around her, trying to hold her as firmly as he can, burying his face into her hair. If the best thing he could do right now was comfort someone, he'd do it. Kairi needed it - he needed to be there for her.]

I'm here - I always come back.

[She tilts her head up a little and kisses him square on the lips, lingering there for a few moments just because she could. Even after being "together" for a quite a few months, they didn't kiss as often as some couple but she figured they both could use it right about now. She pulls back after a bit before curling up even closer.]

I know...I'm happy that you do. I'm stuck with you.

[No, they didn't kiss as often as some couples, but honestly Sora didn't mind that - they didn't need to, they knew what they meant to each other. But this was one of the situations where they really did need to, for comfort and reassurance, and he kissed her back just as long and hard as she kissed him, their initial awkwardness gone for several months now. And when she pulls back, he just keeps holding her as much as he can.]

Yeah, you are, you know. Even me going to the ends of the universe isn't gonna keep me away.

[She's just going to make herself comfortable in her spot in his arms. So not moving, ktnx.]

You didn't even leave town, but I think this was the furthest from me you've ever been.

[And he just winces at that. Not his fault - but terrible terrible consequences.]

I'm sorry, Kairi - I hated making you sad.

[Even when he didn't remember her, her reactions - everyone's reactions - told him she was important to him. So even then, he was feeling guilty. Now it was a hundred times worse.]

[She doesn't like that he's guilty though.] It's not your fault. It's not hers either. It's something that happened, that's all. [She sounds as reassuring as she can, but it's obvious that these last few months have been hard on her anyway.]

[Tell that to his sense of protecting people. It's kind of going haywire right now.]

I think I want those guys to be closer - so we can keep an eye on each other and stuff.

[He wants to make sure his family is safe.]

[She's quiet again at that.]

...Riku won't come home. [She sounds more or less heartbroken at that as well.] He had to fight against her, but he and the other two that fought her couldn't defeat her so he wouldn't come home yet. He said to tell him when you woke up though, but other than that? He won't even talk to me.

[...Oh god, heartbreak is the right word for that. Sora's face visibly falls.]

...We're just gonna be here for him when he does come home, then.

[She can't even look at him, but their expressions probably match now.]

Already planning on it. I'm so worried about him though.

Me too, but if we go after him, he'll just run away. We gotta be patient.

[He's not good at that, but he's going to do his best for Riku.]

...Riku's just like you. He always comes back, too, even when he purposely tries to hide from us. It's just hard to wait, you know that.

...Yeah, I know. I just don't like it.

[But what else can they do? If they go after him, he'll run away. All they can do is be there where he can find them when he wants to.]

He'll be back soon. I just know it. [Still, that doesn't stop her from pressing her face into his shoulder again. Sigh.]

[And Sora just holds on to her, awkwardly and softly stroking her hair again.]

It'll be okay Kairi - I'm back, you can relax now.
