Forty-Fifth Shower - [Voice]

I know a lot of people are already planning on how to make the best of this and make sure we have a good strategy, but why do I feel like that might not be enough this time? I was hoping they'd skip us this time, and right around Christmas? Thanks a lot.

Well, guess that means I have to bump my Christmas plans back a little further. [She's trying to make light of the situation, even though she's really not that happy. She's pretty worried, actually.] Underground this time, huh? I'm not sure if that's better or worse. But why...you'd think they'd learn from last time, I'm not really a combatant.

I want to be better this time, and I'm not going to get knocked out early this time. I'm...I'm really good with healing magic now, and some of the other magic, too. And I'm a little better at combat for back-up support. [But definitely not for the front lines, she thinks.] I want to help. Just tell me what to do.

And for something a little less depressing...who's planning Christmas parties this year? I've got some ideas, but we'll see how those go.

[Draft announcements always make him angry. There's the fact that people have to go out there in a war, to kill... and there's the huge fact that some of the people they're sending out can't fight. What do they expect out of them? Why send them to a war they need to win? It didn't make sense, and it was unfair.

Luke felt a little worse when he saw Kairi on the list. This post from her confirmed it: she's not much of a fighter either. What can he do? He doesn't want her to go in there without really knowing what to do...]

Do you want me to do anything for you before you go? I can help you with combat...

[Luke...it's a few moments before she actually responds, because while she doesn't want to make Luke take time out to help her with something like this, she also recognizes that it really would not be the worst thing ever.]

Would you mind? If you're really busy, it's okay. I can go out to the Dome and practice a little bit before tomorrow.

Nah, it's fine. I don't have anything to do right now anyway.

[There's a shuffling noise as he gets down on the floor and reaches under his bed, his other hand patting above it to grab the journal.]

[There we go: He shuts the journal so that he can resume his search. He found it a few days ago and meant to give it to Xion later, but right now... Kairi needs it.]

Sure. [But she doesn't say anything else since Luke shuts the journal...so instead she'll shut her own journal and gather everything up to go wait for him outside. Luke's a good friend ;~;]

[He tries for the people he cares about ;~; Once he finds what he's looking for, he gathers a few more things and heads out to House 14. Luckily, she's waiting outside for him.

Luke has his sword strapped to his back and carries another one over his shoulder - both are wooden, made for training only. In his other hand hangs a necklace with some sort of charm at the end, the thing he was searching for.

When he sees Kairi, he inclines his head to greet her, as his hands are currently kind of full.]

Kairi!

[She's going to wave, and then she's going to take in all of what he's got strapped to him. Her eyes widen a bit before she's jumping up and heading toward him.]

Hey, do you want me to take something? You're balancing a lot.

I think I'm okay.

[Once she gets to him, though, he holds out the necklace. The pendant at the end has a very neat design to it: a silver circle with many loops and two colored beads on each side, all within the circle, and strange writing engraved into the sides of it.]

Oh, would you take this?

[She's going to nod and take it from his hands, though she's giving it another once-over.] For Xion?

[He lets the wooden sword on his shoulder swing forward so that he can press the tip into the ground instead and lean his hand on it.]

That's called a capacity core. They come from my world. If you wear one in battle, it brings up whatever abilities it's designed for the more experience you gain. This one has "mystic" engraved here - [He runs his finger along the engravings to show her.]. It'll strengthen your magic offense and defense, and speed too.

[He looks at her face now, a small frown of worry on his own.] If you wear that under your clothes, it shouldn't get in the way.

[She's going to take a look at it, turning it in her hands and staring with a bit of awe.]

Me? ...thanks, Luke. But where did you even get this? I didn't think they would give you something like this.

I saw this one just sitting in the store a few days ago. Maybe they realized a draft was coming up or something... They want us to win, right? So it makes sense.

Is it good for more than a one-time use? I don't want to take something from you that can only be used once.

Yeah! You can use it any time you want. You might not feel anything at first, but trust me, it'll be working.

[He holds the wooden sword out to her now.] You can wear it now, too. I don't know if it'll count, but we can try.

[She'll go ahead and take the wooden sword too, tucking it under her arm for a moment to slip on the capacity core.] You're amazing sometimes, you know that? Should we head to the battle dome?

H-Heh heh...

[R-Right, time to move on to the other question!]

Yeah, let's go. You can choose the setting if you want to. [And with that, he'll turn and head toward the battle dome, slowing down after a few steps to make sure Kairi's coming with him.]

[Yep, she's following.] I should probably choose a harder setting than I'm used to...you know, just to challenge myself and make sure I can handle this. I want to be ready this time.

That sounds like a good idea. Do you know where you're going this time? [All he saw was the list before ragequitting on the post. Not really bright, but...]

Sounds like we're underground. I know they mentioned a mine, at least. Suddenly we're all just a bunch of moles.

Luke shuts his eyes and takes in a deep breath. No, he can't go there now.]

[It happens when your best friends are basically poster children for PTSD waiting to happen. You start noticing details.]

Okay. If you're sure, we can head out there right now. I bet it's going to be busy though.

If it's full, I'll wait with you until one frees up. Or we could just practice somewhere else... But I think this'll be better.

[They're about halfway there now, though there's also the barracks to consider. Still, they're not like mines.

... Gah, mines. Luke just hopes he can actually do this for Kairi and not be useless.]

[She's walking alongside him, though she's a bit distracted.]

I really appreciate all of this, Luke...I'll make it up to you when I get back. Promise. You've trained for years, haven't you?

Sort of... [He looks down at the ground as he walks, just watching the rhythm of his footsteps. It's a little easier to talk about when he's focused on something else.] My master taught me basic stuff. But I still didn't really know how to fight until I got thrown into real battles.
